Are toxins at home in your body?
According to the DCD’s report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, there is an average of 148 synthetic chemicals coursing through your bloodstream at this very moment. Some of these chemicals are known or suspected causes of cancer. And an alarming number of these chemicals were voluntarily applied by you though your everyday personal hygiene products.
One third of all soaps, balms, shampoos and cosmetics contain at least one known human carcinogen in their list of ingredients, and 89% of the 10,500 most common ingredients used in these personal care products have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety. In Europe, over 1,200 of these chemicals have been banned or restricted for use in personal care products. Only nine have been banned in the United States. Breast cancer rates have increased from 1 in 20 in the 60’s to 1 in 7 today. Many doctors, scientists and researchers believe a major cause of this is the harmful chemicals and ingredients in the personal care products many women scrub and slather on their bodies every day.
These chemicals have been thought to cause forms of cancer and accelerate the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Large amounts of these chemicals have been found polluting the San Francisco Bay- if these chemicals can significantly pollute a huge body of water, imagine what they might be doing to your body as you apply them to your skin!
Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It absorbs over 60% of anything applied to it, metabolizing any chemical within reach and pumping it into your bloodstream to be used by your lungs, heart and other vital organs. Every lotion, hand soap, shampoo or deodorant applied to your skin is absorbed and broken down into your bloodstream, even if the chemicals involved could eventually hurt your body.
The good news is that you can still use the personal care products you love without exposing yourself to harmful chemicals and toxins. Beach Organics offers organic alternatives to many of the beauty products that you love, including bath salts, soaps, lotions, shampoos and deodorants.
